Sinusitis

Sinusitis, the second most prevalent chronic health problem in the United States, affects up to 30 million people annually in the United States and results in healthcare costs of $3.4 billion each year. Although it is not a fatal disease, it can negatively impact quality of life.

Sinusitis is characterized by inflammation of the sinuses; four air-filled sacs near the nose and eyes. The sinuses are lined with mucus membranes that trap viruses, bacteria, and foreign material. When they become inflamed, the mucus can become thicker or thinner and cause pain in the face and even in the jaw. When sinuses are blocked with thick mucus, they can more easily become infected.

  • Headache and swelling around the eyes
  • Bad breath
